Day 01 - Arrive Cochin
Arrive Cochin International Airport and you will be met by our representative at Airport and transfer to Fort Cochin. Evening Short drive to Cochin. European influences in the architecture of this charming town picturesquely located on a number of islands squeezed between the Arabian Sea and the Kerala backwaters are instantly apparent. Reflecting the maritime history of Kochi, the old buildings are a blend of Dutch, Portuguese and British architecture. Evening we have a cooking session at the home of Nalini Verma – a 26 year veteran in cooking. Nalini has authored four cookbooks and is a celebrity in her own rights. She will give us a unique opportunity to get acquainted with finer nuances of traditional Kerala cuisine through her special cookery classes. The session takes place at her residence in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi and is followed by dinner where we get yet another opportunity to experience Indian home and culture. Overnight stay at Xandari Harbour – Spice Room
Day 02 - Cochin
Your first full day in India begins with a walking tour of Fort Cochin. Visit the rather understated Dutch Palace before continuing on to the Paradesi Synagogue which is located in the Jew Town quarter of Cochin, adjacent to the palace. Built in 1568 this is the commonwealth’s oldest synagogue and one of the very few of its kind in India. The final stop on your tour will be the early 16th-Century St Francis Church. Lunch we visit the local fish market where our tour guide will teach us how to recognise and buy (bargain first) the fresh catch of the day and fresh prawns. After a careful selection and bargaining, a variety of local fish and other seafood will be purchased for our dinner – prepared by the executive chef of the hotel.
